In China, “Dong Zhi” means the end of the winter season before the spring season takes over in the Lunar New Year. Traditionally, the winter celebration is far more important than the Lunar New Year celebration within Chinese community. Therefore, in the agriculture society, every Chinese family will gather together to must celebrate “Dong Zhi”. It is also grand thanksgiving ceremony held to seek blessing from the ten direction Buddhas, Bodhisattvas and all Protectors of Devas and Deities.

The Winter Solstice Thanksgiving Ancestor’s Memorial Service during Dong Zhi is a grand thanksgiving ceremony to express theirs gratitude and to perform transference of merits to their departed ancestors, past lives and karmic debtors, parents, teachers and all their love ones for their kindness. May all sentient beings of the three realms be relieved from sufferings and be born in the Pure Land.
